Water Pump Seal Ring

A small but essential component of the water pump assembly, the water pan seal ring prevents coolant leaks between the pump and engine block. It plays a crucial role in maintaining system pressure and preventing coolant seepage that can cause air pockets, overheating, or corrosion.

Why It Matters:

Ensures a proper seal between mating surfaces
Should always be replaced when servicing the water pump
Helps maintain consistent coolant pressure and temperature

Thermostats for the QSB 7.0 Cooling System

The Cummins QSB 7.0 uses a thermostat-controlled cooling system to regulate coolant circulation based on engine temperature. This allows for quicker engine warm-up and prevents overheating once operating temperature is achieved.

Available Thermostat Configurations:

165°F Thermostat
Ideal for colder climates or lighter load profiles where early coolant circulation prevents thermal spikes during startup.
180°F Thermostat
Commonly used in marine propulsion and generator engines. Enables a hotter operating environment for cleaner combustion and optimized fuel efficiency.

Both thermostat options are engineered for compatibility with the entire QSB engine family, including 4.5, 5.9, 6.7, and 7.0-liter versions.

Thermostat Seal

The thermostat seal ensures the thermostat is properly seated and prevents coolant from bypassing the housing. This component is vital for maintaining correct coolant flow direction and system efficiency.

Belt Tensioners for the QSB 7.0 Water Pump System

Belt tensioners ensure the correct tension is maintained across the accessory drive system, particularly for the alternator, water pump, and fan. A failing tensioner can lead to decreased component efficiency or complete belt detachment—both of which jeopardize cooling system function.

Two Tensioner Styles Offered:

Serpentine Belts for Water Pump, Alternator & Fan Drive

Serpentine belts play a vital role in driving the water pump, alternator, and fan components. For the QSB 7.0, a series of 8-ribbed belts are used, offering high grip, reduced slippage, and efficient power transmission across rotating accessories.

Specifications:

Ribbed: 8-rib V-style serpentine belts
Width: 1.125 inches
Lengths: Range from 53.5" to 69.0" depending on specific engine configuration

Typical Applications:

Alternator drive
Engine-mounted coolant pump
Mechanical fan drive for marine and generator units

Belt Maintenance Tips:

Replace belts at regular service intervals or if signs of glazing, cracking, or fraying appear.
Always inspect tensioner condition when changing belts.
Match length and rib count to your specific QSB 7.0 configuration.

Silicone Coolant Hoses for the QSB 7.0

High-temperature silicone coolant hoses offer superior performance over traditional rubber hoses, especially in marine and industrial environments where continuous heat and vibration are common. Silicone’s durability and flexibility make it ideal for QSB 7.0 cooling systems.

Sizing Options:

Inside Diameters: Available from 3/4" up to 4"
Length: Supplied in 1-foot increments for easy routing
Construction: Multi-layer reinforced silicone for durability and burst resistance

Benefits of Silicone:

Greater heat tolerance
Resistance to chemical additives and saltwater vapor
Long service life under high-vibration conditions
More flexible for tight engine compartments

When to Replace Hoses:

Any signs of soft spots, cracking, or swelling
Routine replacement during cooling system overhaul
After overheating events

Hose Clamps for Coolant and Fuel Lines

To ensure a leak-proof seal on every hose connection, stainless steel hose clamps are essential. Diesel Pro Power offers a complete range of worm gear clamps suitable for coolant and fuel lines in the QSB 7.0 engine system.

Clamp Range Options:

Small Clamps: Fit hoses from 9/16" to 1-1/16"
Medium Clamps: Sizes ranging up to 2-1/2"
Large Clamps: Fit up to 3.5" hose outer diameters

Best Practices:

Use new clamps when replacing hoses
Match the clamp’s effective diameter to the outer diameter of the hose
Apply even torque and avoid overtightening to prevent hose deformation

Radiator Cleaner & Maintenance Products

Radiator and heat exchanger cleaning is a critical maintenance step for marine engines like the QSB 7.0. Over time, scale and sediment can accumulate in coolant passages, reducing heat transfer efficiency.

Radiator Cleaner Benefits:

Breaks down mineral deposits and scale buildup
Improves heat exchanger and radiator efficiency
Non-corrosive formulation safe for aluminum and brass
Ideal for annual or seasonal maintenance cycles

Temperature Switches for Cooling System Control

The QSB 7.0 system may include temperature switches for fan clutch engagement, safety shutdown systems, or auxiliary coolant pumps. These switches are designed to close the circuit at a specific temperature—typically around 205°F—activating additional cooling measures when needed.

Key Features:

Marine-grade construction for corrosion resistance
Threaded for standard NPT ports
Compatible with Cummins, Detroit Diesel, and Caterpillar setups
Plays a vital role in automated engine protection systems

Gauges for Monitoring QSB 7.0 Cooling System Health
