Cylinder Heads & Related Components For Cummins ISC Engines

The cylinder head is one of the most vital components in any diesel engine—and this holds especially true for the Cummins ISC platform. Built for reliability in medium-duty and industrial applications, the Cummins ISC engine benefits from a robust top-end assembly, including a precision-machined cylinder head, high-performance intake and exhaust valves, and all the associated gaskets, guides, and seals required to ensure optimal combustion and long-term durability.

Diesel Pro Power offers a full line of cylinder head components for Cummins ISC engines. Whether you're performing a complete top-end rebuild or replacing individual head-related parts, our selection covers everything you need—from a fully assembled head with valves and springs to the valve guides, seals, and gaskets that ensure your rebuild lasts.

Complete Cylinder Head Assembly for Cummins ISC

Our Cummins ISC cylinder head is offered as a fully assembled unit that includes both intake and exhaust valves, along with valve springs pre-installed. This makes it an ideal solution for customers looking to perform a straightforward replacement without the hassle of sourcing and assembling components separately. Each cylinder head is designed to meet or exceed OEM specifications, ensuring compatibility with your ISC engine block and combustion system.

Whether you're replacing a cracked head, repairing damage caused by overheating, or restoring a high-mileage engine, this complete head provides the foundation for reliable operation in industrial, marine, and on-highway applications.

Cylinder Head Bolts

Each Cummins ISC cylinder head is secured to the engine block using specially engineered head bolts. These fasteners must withstand the high combustion pressures generated in heavy-duty diesel engines. Our inventory includes a full set of cylinder head bolts for ISC applications, and we recommend replacing these bolts with each head replacement or top-end rebuild to ensure proper torque and clamping force.

ISC engines typically use 14 cylinder head bolts per head, and it's critical to torque them in the proper sequence using the manufacturer’s specification to prevent warping or uneven sealing.

Valvetrain Components for Cummins ISC

The cylinder head’s primary function is to support the valvetrain and seal the combustion chamber. Below is a complete breakdown of all major ISC valvetrain components available from Diesel Pro Power.

Intake Valve Kit

The intake valve allows fresh air to enter the combustion chamber from the intake manifold. Our Cummins ISC intake valve kits are manufactured to withstand high heat cycles, pressure fluctuations, and intake pulsations typical of modern diesel engines. Each valve is precision-machined for proper seating and optimal airflow performance.

Exhaust Valve

The exhaust valve is responsible for expelling combustion gases from the cylinder into the exhaust manifold. Over time, exhaust valves can become pitted or eroded due to heat and pressure. We offer high-temperature resistant exhaust valves for Cummins ISC engines to maintain sealing integrity and exhaust efficiency.

Valve Springs

Valve springs ensure that intake and exhaust valves close rapidly and with the proper force during engine operation. We offer premium-grade ISC valve springs compatible with both intake and exhaust sides. These springs are designed to resist fatigue and maintain tension even under the severe operating conditions common in diesel powerplants.

Valve Spring Retainers

These components hold the valve springs in place and are essential to ensure that valve actuation remains consistent. Our Cummins ISC valve spring retainers are built to OEM tolerances and made from heat-treated steel for strength and durability.

Valve Guides

Valve guides help maintain proper alignment of the valve stem during actuation. As part of regular head maintenance, valve guides should be inspected for wear. Diesel Pro Power offers ISC valve guides that are compatible with both intake and exhaust valves, ensuring reduced stem friction and proper valve movement throughout the engine’s life.

Valve Guide Seals

Valve guide seals play a crucial role in controlling oil consumption by limiting oil passage along the valve stem. Excessively worn or brittle seals can lead to smoking and oil fouling. Our ISC valve guide seals are manufactured from high-performance materials that maintain flexibility and sealing effectiveness even under extreme operating temperatures.

Valve Seat Inserts

To ensure valves seat properly and seal the combustion chamber effectively, we carry hardened valve seat inserts for both intake and exhaust valves. These inserts are compatible with ISC engine heads and are engineered to resist micro-welding and wear from high-temperature valve seating.

Intake Valve Inserts – Designed to accept the valve head while maintaining concentricity and sealing.
Exhaust Valve Inserts – Built to withstand exhaust gas temperatures and valve hammering.

Gasket Sets for Cummins ISC Cylinder Heads

A high-quality gasket set is critical to a successful head installation. We offer several types of upper and lower gasket sets tailored to Cummins ISC engines, including options based on the engine’s fuel system and emissions configuration.

Upper Gasket Sets

Upper gasket sets include all necessary components for resealing the top-end of the engine. This typically includes the head gasket, intake and exhaust manifold gaskets, injector o-rings, valve cover gaskets, and other seals.

We offer multiple ISC upper gasket sets compatible with:

CM554 Fuel Systems (CAPS): These are mechanical/electronic hybrid fuel systems used on earlier ISC engines.
CM850 Systems (HPCR): Later ISC engines using high-pressure common rail injection.
EGR-equipped Engines: Designed for ISC models with Exhaust Gas Recirculation systems.

Each upper gasket set is tailored to ensure leak-free operation and proper thermal expansion characteristics.

Lower Gasket Set

Though not directly part of the cylinder head, the lower gasket set is often replaced during top-end rebuilds. It includes gaskets for the oil pan, front and rear seals, and other components below the head. We carry ISC-compatible lower gasket sets built with premium materials to withstand vibration and thermal cycling.

Intake Connection Gasket

This gasket forms the seal between the intake manifold and the cylinder head. A compromised intake gasket can result in boost leaks and poor engine performance. Our intake connection gaskets are designed to handle high air pressures and elevated engine temperatures without deformation or cracking.

Rocker Lever and Cover Gaskets

Although not shown in the product list above, rocker cover and housing gaskets should also be inspected and replaced during any head work. Diesel Pro Power carries ISC-compatible rocker cover gaskets in both early and late styles, helping you avoid oil leaks and contamination.

Additional Components for Head Rebuild

When rebuilding or replacing a cylinder head on the Cummins ISC, the following supporting components may also be required:

Temperature Switch: Ensures cooling systems respond correctly to heat levels. We offer a universal switch compatible with Cummins and Detroit Diesel applications, activating at 205°F.
Injector Tubes and Seals: For engines using removable injector sleeves, we recommend replacing tubes and seals to prevent coolant or fuel intrusion.
Rocker Arm Nuts and Bolts: Essential for adjusting the valve lash and ensuring valve timing remains in spec.

Applications for Cummins ISC Cylinder Head Components

The Cummins ISC engine is used in a broad range of applications including:

School and transit buses
Medium-duty trucks (e.g., delivery and regional haul)
Fire apparatus
Construction equipment (e.g., backhoes, wheel loaders)
Generator sets
Marine auxiliary systems

Because the ISC platform exists in several configurations (including emissions-compliant models with EGR, DPF, and various CM control modules), it is essential to confirm compatibility based on your specific ECM or fuel system before ordering gaskets or head components.
