Parts for Detroit Diesel 8V71 Non-Turbo – Blower Section

The Detroit Diesel 8V71 engine represents one of the most iconic powerplants in the Series 71 family—renowned for its rugged dependability and long service life across industrial, marine, and on-highway applications. The blower assembly on the 8V71 plays a critical role in maintaining proper air delivery, ensuring the two-stroke diesel engine operates with the correct air-to-fuel ratio. Without this essential component, combustion efficiency and engine responsiveness would quickly deteriorate.

This catalog section provides everything you need to service, rebuild, or replace the blower and its related components for the Detroit Diesel 8V71 Non-Turbo engine. Whether you’re maintaining a standby generator, refurbishing a commercial vessel, or restoring an older piece of heavy equipment, Diesel Pro Power has you covered with genuine-quality parts and fast worldwide delivery to over 180 countries.

Rebuilt Blowers for Detroit Diesel 8V71 and 16V71

The rebuilt Detroit Diesel 8V71 blower is at the heart of this catalog. Expertly remanufactured to precise OEM standards, each unit is completely disassembled, cleaned, and inspected before receiving new seals, bearings, and gaskets. The rotor timing is calibrated for balanced airflow and minimal leakage, ensuring consistent performance and longevity.

Each blower is sold with a refundable core deposit, allowing customers to return their old unit for credit—an eco-friendly and cost-effective way to keep equipment in service. These blowers feature 39-tooth pinions and are compatible with both 8V71 and 16V71 engines, making them suitable for a wide range of installations across marine and industrial platforms.

Diesel Pro’s rebuilt blowers deliver near-new reliability without the new-unit price tag, backed by the confidence of over 40,000 satisfied customers worldwide.

Blower Oil Tube Assemblies

To maintain the health of your blower, oil supply lines are essential. The Detroit Diesel Tube Assemblies for Blower Oil—available in 1/8” x 1/8” and 1/8” x 1/4” configurations—ensure steady lubrication to the blower bearings and gear drive. Proper oil flow prevents premature wear and extends the lifespan of both the blower and accessory drive components.

These precision-formed steel tubes resist vibration, corrosion, and heat—perfect for demanding environments where reliability is critical.

Blower Repair and Installation Kits

For operators performing a full or partial rebuild, Diesel Pro Power offers the Detroit Diesel Blower Repair Kit for Series 71 engines. This kit includes high-quality seals, bearings, and gaskets, giving you everything necessary to overhaul a natural aspiration blower.

The Blower Installation Gasket Kit (for Series 71 and 92 engines) ensures a leak-free installation between the blower housing, air box, and cylinder head. Each gasket is designed for proper fit and thickness to maintain correct rotor clearance and prevent air loss.

By combining these kits, customers can complete a full top-end service with confidence, knowing each seal and gasket meets the exacting standards required for the two-stroke Detroit Diesel platform.

Blower Couplings and Shafts

The Detroit Diesel Blower Coupling is engineered for thin 48-spline shafts, ensuring smooth, vibration-free power transfer from the accessory drive. Couplings are precision-machined for exact spline engagement, preventing gear wear and rotational play.

Two shaft lengths are available to match your specific configuration:

7-inch, 48-spline shaft – ideal for 8V71 and 16V71 setups.
7.87-inch, 48-spline shaft – designed for configurations requiring extended reach.

Each shaft is manufactured from hardened steel for maximum torsional strength and long-lasting durability. When paired with Diesel Pro’s Blower Coupling Hub Plates and Accessory Drive Hubs, you’ll achieve a secure, properly aligned blower-to-drive connection that stands up to constant operation.

Gaskets, Seals, and Retainers

Every Detroit Diesel two-stroke engine relies on airtight precision. Diesel Pro Power carries a complete selection of blower gaskets, drive seals, and shaft retainers for Series 71 engines. These include:

Each gasket is produced from premium materials that withstand diesel oil, high pressure, and extreme heat. Replacing old or deteriorated gaskets is vital to prevent unmetered air leaks, oil seepage, or power loss.

Bearings and Support Components

For operators performing deep rebuilds, Diesel Pro Power offers the Bearing for Accessory and Blower Gear Drive, suitable for both V71 and V92 series engines. These bearings are washer-shaped and designed to maintain correct alignment and low friction between rotating components. Proper bearing replacement ensures your blower gears run quietly and efficiently, extending overall component life.

Air Intake Components and Silencers

The blower works hand-in-hand with the air intake system, and Diesel Pro Power carries multiple configurations of air cleaners and marine silencers to match your engine environment.

Air Cleaners: Available in 4-inch and 5-inch inlet diameters, with body diameters up to 12.5 inches and heights up to 16 inches. These units filter airborne contaminants and protect internal components from abrasive wear.
Marine Silencers: Designed specifically for 8V71, 16V71, 8V92, 16V92, and 8V53 marine engines. These silencers reduce intake noise while maintaining airflow, ideal for vessel engine rooms or generator enclosures.

Each air cleaner and silencer is constructed from corrosion-resistant materials, ensuring durability even in saltwater or heavy dust environments.

Air Box Kits and Valves

The Detroit Diesel Air Box Kit provides a complete solution for restoring the air chamber that distributes clean air evenly across all cylinders. When paired with the Air Box Breather Valve Assembly, it ensures proper crankcase ventilation and prevents oil contamination in the air stream.

Maintaining a properly sealed and balanced air box is key to optimizing blower output and fuel efficiency, particularly in high-load or continuous-duty engines.

Shutdown Solenoids and Governor Gaskets

For safety and control, the Detroit Diesel Shutdown Solenoids are available in 12-volt and 24/32-volt options. These units are vital for automatically cutting fuel supply during engine shutdown or emergency stop situations.

To complement this system, Diesel Pro offers Hydraulic Governor Gaskets, ensuring a tight seal between the governor and its drive assembly. Precision sealing in this area helps maintain stable idle speeds and prevents oil leakage into the governor housing.

Teleflex Morse Control Components

For marine applications, Diesel Pro Power includes Teleflex Morse control terminals such as Ball Joint Type and Clevis Type connectors. Both are designed for 1/4-inch marine control cables (43C series), providing secure throttle or governor linkage connections. Built with stainless steel hardware, these components withstand marine corrosion and ensure precise throttle control.
